Company
Why this company exists.
We want people in North Carolina to be able to build a future here from what they create. D.C Alacrity brings filmmaking, immersive storytelling and software development together to grow an industry with lasting roots: original work owned here, technology developed here, and opportunities for the people who call this place home.
Our purpose · Our motto
Sprinting the Marathon of Tomorrow.
Alacrity is an eager readiness to act. For us, it begins with being excited for the future—and choosing to help create it. “Sprinting the Marathon of Tomorrow” expresses how we work: with energy today and a commitment that reaches beyond the next production. Every film should leave more behind than a finished title: skills people can carry forward, tools another team can use, and creative ownership that can support what comes next.
Our ambition is to help make North Carolina a driving force in the future of cinema and a place where creative and technical talent can build lasting careers. We develop original intellectual property, build the technology our productions need, and turn what we learn into workflows others can use. The business is designed to connect the value of a story with the value of the systems behind it, creating opportunities across production, software and immersive media.
We call this the Experience Industry: filmmakers, performers, engineers and researchers working together to create experiences people can enter, influence and share. Right Here Right Now! brought our live-action interactive filmmaking to Meta Quest. Prize Pool VR, now in development, is the next test of that approach at a larger production scale. Pure Alacrity and Alacrity Player are part of our work to make the process more accessible and repeatable.
Principles
How we turn ambition into lasting work.
Build ownership here
Develop original stories and technology with the potential to earn beyond a single production and support the next generation of work.
Solve the problems we encounter
Let the demands of real productions guide the software, then put it back into the hands of the people doing the work.
Put the work in front of people
Release, listen and improve. An audience teaches us things a proposal cannot.
Pass the knowledge forward
Document the process so another filmmaker, student or team can take it further without starting over.
Build across disciplines
Give creative and technical collaborators a shared role in shaping the work. Credit the people whose expertise makes it possible.
Grow with North Carolina
Measure our long-term progress in the work, ownership and opportunities we help create here, alongside the audiences we reach.
North Carolina, together
Connect the industries shaping our future.
Wilmington brings film, university research and coastal enterprise into the same community. Its Blue Economy connects economic opportunity with the sustainable use of ocean and coastal resources. We see an opportunity for immersive media to help the people doing that work communicate what matters, share expertise and bring others closer to environments they may never experience firsthand.
We are seeking collaborations with marine researchers, educators and coastal businesses to explore immersive science communication, interactive learning and shared VR experiences. Those collaborations would give our creative and technical work a wider purpose while opening new avenues for local expertise. Our ambition is to help North Carolina’s industries grow together, with filmmaking contributing to innovation across the wider economy.
Founder · Executive Producer / Experience Architect
D.C (David-Chuku) Agwu
D.C Agwu founded D.C Alacrity with a conviction: people should be able to pursue extraordinary creative ambitions and build a future in North Carolina. He is working toward a film industry that originates its own stories, develops its own technology and creates reasons for talented people to stay, collaborate and build companies here.
As an Executive Producer and Experience Architect, he connects the story an audience experiences with the people, production decisions and software that make it possible. His work spans the collaborative demands of Sidequest and the live-action interactive storytelling of Right Here Right Now!, released on Meta Quest. Across those projects, the larger question is the same: what can one production make possible for the people who come after it?
That question now drives Prize Pool VR and his research at UNCW. Building on the first film with Kian Miley and collaborators across disciplines, he is developing a clearer path from an ambitious branching script to a finished experience. The goal is for future filmmakers to use that process independently, carrying the work forward after he graduates.
As Deputy Project Manager of an aerospace engineering team in NASA’s L’SPACE Academy, D.C gained experience leading complex technical work across disciplines. That leadership experience, combined with his studies in film and cybersecurity, informs how he brings creative ambition and technical planning together. His commitment extends beyond the screen: through D.C Alacrity, he wants to connect filmmaking with North Carolina’s wider innovation economy, including Wilmington’s marine and coastal community, and help turn local talent into lasting opportunity.
Chief Technology Officer
Kian Miley
Engineering the systems that make immersive experiences work, and the foundations that let other people build on them.
Kian Miley brings hands-on expertise in immersive software, networked interaction and human-centered research to his role as CTO. He developed the original underlying VR mechanics for Right Here Right Now!, working with D.C Agwu to bring the interactive film to Meta Quest. His contribution connects the creative possibilities of the medium with the engineering required to deliver them to an audience.
His ongoing multi-user immersive video work uses Unity, C# and Ubiq to synchronize 360-degree viewing across Meta Quest and desktop clients. He has implemented host-controlled playback, public and private rooms, avatars, voice chat and persistent local video loading. These systems address a practical challenge for immersive media: allowing people to experience the same work together, with coordinated playback and interaction.
In UNCW’s agentic AI trust research, Kian engineered a VR construction system supporting controller and hand interaction, placement previews, grid-aware snapping, spatial validation and physics stabilization. His broader development experience includes authenticated, database-backed applications built with Flutter and Firebase, and collaborative gameplay and interface development. That range gives him a foundation in both the experience people see and the application logic that supports it.
Kian holds a B.S. in Computer Science with a software engineering concentration from UNCW and is pursuing an M.S. in Computer Science and Information Systems. His master’s thesis examines generative AI, critical thinking and cognitive offloading; the research has been accepted for presentation at the 2026 TREO Conference in Lisbon. Across his engineering and research, he asks how people interact with technology, what they trust it to do, and how to make those interactions useful. At D.C Alacrity, that perspective supports our ambition to build immersive technology that filmmakers, educators and future collaborators can use with confidence.
